Microneedling

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin. A specialised treatment device uses thin needles to make tiny micro channels in the top layer of your skin. The channels created helps stimulate your skin's natural healing process, causing it to produce collagen and elastin. These proteins are responsible for keeping your skin firm and smooth and from the age of 25 our ability to create collagen and elastin starts to diminish causing the skin to become suffer from volume loss and for the ageing process to take hold. Regular microneedling treatments can aid in holding off the aging process and even help to reverse it. Microneedling is combined with specially developed infusions that are microneedled into the skins surface to help treat specific areas of skin concern.

Microneedling is used to treat:

  • Fine lines, wrinkles and skin sagging

  • Enlarged pores

  • Acne

  • Scars

  • Pigmentation

  • Stretch marks

  • Uneven skin tone

What are the treatments that Microneedling can be combined with for maximum results?

Microneedling can be combined with either specially created infusions/serums or Sosum Hyaluronic Acid skin booster. Both aid in targeting different skin concerns such as plumping, lifting, hydration and pigmentation. I will be able to guide you in which will be best for your skin once a full evaluation and your requirements have been discussed.

Does a Microneedling treatment hurt?

The microneedling device has a cartridge containing multiple very fine needles that oscillate rapidly whilst gliding over the skin surface. Although this can be a little uncomfortable at times (the forehead area can be tender as this is where the skin is at it’s thinnest), it is not painful. The device has multiple options for needle depths, that can be turned up or down depending on the individual’s tolerance. You will be in control of the depth at all times. The treatment does not take long to complete and once over a cooling mask is applied.

Is Microneedling safe?
Yes, the procedure is minimally invasive, which means that there is virtually no downtime and the healing process is quick, so allergic reactions and side-effects are unlikely to occur. Aftercare is also very simple and can be fully administered at home. Infection is a possibility if proper homecare advice is not followed.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with skin needling?
Microneedling treatments carried out professionally are very safe procedures, which carry minimal risk of adverse skin reactions.  After the treatment your skin will appear flushed and feel warm – this will seem very similar to a mild sunburn.  In the days following your treatment, depending on the intensity and depth of the procedure and the condition of your skin, you may experience a tight feeling and light flaking of the skin for 2 -3 days. It is vital that you follow all the necessary aftercare advice that your practitioner will give to you in order to nurture your skin through the recovery phase and ensure the most positive results.  Failure to care for your skin post treatment mat result in your skin failing to heal properly and the skin can then suffer damage.

How quickly are results visible?
Visibly rejuvenated skin can generally be seen after just 6-8 days following a procedure, with results further improving over time. A course of Microneedling sessions is usually recommended to achieve optimal results; however, improvement is usually noticeable after just one treatment.

What can be expected after Microneedling treatment?
It is important to organise your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event.

Day of treatment: You will have redness and mild swelling, your skin will feel tight and may feel hot and stingy for a couple of hours after treatment.

Day 2: Red or pink hue similar to moderate sunburn may persist. There may be some swelling on the second day, but this can be covered with mineral makeup (24 hours post treatment).

Day 3: Skin may still retain a pink hue, or return to normal colour.

Day 4-7: You skin may have some dryness and flaking which is perfectly normal and making way for your new radiant glow.

How does Microneedling work?
Microneedling creates micro-injuries which will ultimately trigger the growth of fibroblast cells that will stimulate the production of collagen resulting in plumper and smoother-looking skin. Microneedling helps the skin to repair itself after it has encountered any physical damage like cuts, scars or any other physical damage. When an injury occurs, your skin will destroy the old, damaged tissue that causes acne scarring and wrinkles and will replace it with freshly produced collagen.

Which areas can be treated?
Microneedling can be used to treat most areas of the body. Most common areas are face, neck and décolletage, but other areas such as stomach, back and hands can also be treated

Why choose Microneedling over the surgical treatments?

  • Microneedling gives you rejuvenated and plumper skin with no pain, minimal discomfort and with very little downtime

  • In this therapy, disposable needles are used which eliminates the risk of cross-contamination

  • The depth of the needles is adjustable and this allows for a treatment customized to the patient’s needs

  • Being the most advanced treatment, it can easily treat the hard to reach areas like around the nose, eyes, and lips

  • Needles are injected vertically so that it can easily penetrate scar tissue

  • It is the most controlled and consistent treatment that yields optimal results
