CryoPen Cryosurgery Treatment

Precision Lesion Removal Through Controlled Cryotherapy

CryoPen is an advanced, non-invasive treatment designed to safely and effectively treat a range of benign skin lesions using targeted cryotherapy. The CryoPen device delivers a precise jet of nitrous oxide to the affected area, rapidly freezing the lesion while preserving the surrounding healthy tissue. This controlled approach allows for accurate treatment with minimal discomfort, minimal downtime, and excellent cosmetic outcomes.

How does Cryopen work?

CryoPen cryosurgery works by rapidly freezing intracellular fluid within the targeted lesion, leading to controlled cellular destruction. This process disrupts the abnormal tissue while stimulating the body’s natural healing response. The precision of the CryoPen device ensures surrounding healthy tissue is preserved, allowing the skin to heal naturally and reducing the risk of long-term trauma. Accurate application—not excessive freezing—is key to effective lesion removal and optimal cosmetic healing.

Lesions Suitable for CryoPen Treatment

CryoPen cryosurgery may be suitable for the treatment of the following benign skin lesions:

  • Skin tags

  • Warts

  • Verrucas

  • Cherry angiomas

  • Seborrhoeic keratoses

  • Sun spots and age spots (where clinically appropriate)

*All lesions are assessed thoroughly during consultation. Any lesion of uncertain nature will not be treated and will be referred for medical evaluation. Please see our cancer screening service if you have any concerns.

  • What will happen during the treatment?

Each CryoPen treatment begins with a detailed consultation and skin assessment to confirm suitability and ensure the lesion is appropriate for treatment. Only benign lesions are treated, and medical referral is advised where required.

The CryoPen device allows for millimetre-level precision, ensuring the freezing process is confined strictly to the targeted lesion. Treatment is quick, typically lasting only seconds per lesion, and does not require anaesthesia. The treated area may feel warm and sting a little afterwards.

  • Will CryoPen® Treatment Hurt?

CryoPen treatment is generally very well tolerated. You may feel a brief cold or stinging sensation during the application, similar to a quick ice burn, but this typically lasts only a few seconds. Some areas of the body may be slightly more sensitive than others; however, the discomfort is minimal and short-lived.

The procedure is quick, requires no anaesthetic in most cases, and any mild tenderness afterwards usually settles within a few hours.

  • Potential Benefits

    CryoPen cryosurgery may offer:

    • Precise treatment of benign skin lesions

    • Minimal damage to surrounding tissue

    • Quick treatment times

    • Minimal discomfort

    • Low risk of scarring when performed correctly

    • No cutting or sutures required

Results are typically visible as the treated lesion dries, crusts, and naturally sheds during the healing process.

  • When Will I See Results from CryoPen®?

After treatment with CryoPen, the treated lesion will typically darken or form a small crust within a few days. As the skin heals, the area may scab and naturally shed over 7–14 days, depending on the type and size of the lesion treated.

In some cases, particularly with thicker or more stubborn lesions, a second treatment may be required. The final cosmetic result continues to improve as the skin fully regenerates over the following few weeks.

    Possible Complications & Adverse Reactions

CryoPen cryosurgery is generally well tolerated when performed by a trained practitioner. However, potential risks include:

    Common and expected reactions:

    • Temporary redness or swelling

    • Mild blistering at the treatment site

    • Crusting or scab formation

    • Temporary tenderness

    Less common but possible complications:

    • Prolonged healing

    • Post-inflammatory pigmentation changes

    • Infection if aftercare is not followed

    • Scarring (rare and typically linked to over-treatment or poor healing response)

*All risks are discussed during consultation, and strict protocols are followed to minimise complications.

    Aftercare & Recovery

    • Post treatment you may experience; crusting, scabbing, darkening of the treated lesion, heat/warmth around the area, blistering and mild swelling for 7- 28 days.

    • During the healing phase, do not pick, scratch, apply heat, soak in water or apply friction for 7 days.

    • To avoid the wound from re-opening keep strenuous activity to a minimum.

    • Avoid touching the wound as much as possible in the first 7 days.

    • Make sure hands are always cleaned prior to couching to avoid infection.

    • The area may turn white or be discoloured post treatment. This should fade in time.

    • If treated area is on the scalp, please avoid washing hair for 4 days and they uses a gentle baby shampoo for 2 weeks.

*Healing typically occurs over 1–3 weeks, depending on the lesion type and size.

  • Advanced Clinical Expertise You Can Trust

As a highly qualified Advanced Skin Science Practitioner with extensive training across injectable treatments, microneedling, chemical peels, regenerative therapies, and advanced skin boosters, every procedure is delivered with precision, safety, and a deep understanding of skin biology.

Aesthetic treatments should never be one-size-fits-all. When performed by under-qualified or inexperienced practitioners, treatments can lead to complications such as inflammation, barrier disruption, pigmentation irregularities, poor aesthetic outcomes, or even long-term tissue damage.

More aggressive does not mean more effective. Whether the treatment involves injectables, energy-based devices, or skin resurfacing, excessive or poorly judged intervention can compromise skin integrity and accelerate ageing rather than improve it.

A clinically guided approach ensures that every treatment plan is tailored, evidence-based, and designed to enhance results while protecting the long-term health and function of your skin.
